At the “Stories From the Heart: The End of Us” press conference Wednesday, Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi shared the lessons they passed on to their twins, Cassy and Mavy, about life and career.
For Carmina, it was to enjoy life. “It doesn’t mean petiks petiks ka na lang,” she quickly clarified. “Sa akin, you have to work, you have to give your all, you have to be dedicated to your craft. Kailangan may passion ka. Hanapin mo ‘yun. If pag-aartista, then ‘yun. If hindi, ‘wag pilitin.”
“Hanapin niyo ano gusto niyo and once nahanap niyo na, alagaan niyo,” she added.
Carmina said not everyone is given a second chance, especially in the entertainment industry, so it’s important to take care of their crafts.
“Palagi ko sinasabi that you can’t please everybody, kahit maganda ka, gwapo ka, mabait ka, mayroon talaga na hindi magkakagusto sa ‘yo. You cannot please everybody. Ang importante wala kang inaapakan na tao,” she added.
[I always say that you can’t please everybody, even if you’re beautiful or handsome or kind, there will always be someone who won’t like you. You can’t please everybody. What’s important is you don’t step on anyone.]
Meanwhile, Zoren said, at the beginning of the twins’ career, to make sure they have the talent for it and not enter showbusiness just because their parents are actors.
“Hindi porket anak ka na artista, may karapatan ka mag-artista. Karapatan mo because of your talent,” he said. “Makikita ‘yan ng audience. Ipakita niyo na hindi kayo anak ng artista, na nag-artista kayo dahil you have the talent.”
[Just because you are children of actors doesn’t mean you have the right to act. You only get that right because of your talent. The audience can see that. Show that you didn’t pursue acting because your parents are actors, but because you have the talent.]
However, Zoren shared that his heart is at peace since as beginning actors, their talent already has an “above average” grade.
“Pinag-aaralan nila ‘yung script nang maigi…Proud ako na pinag-aaralan nila (They really study their script well…I’m proud that they do),” he said.
This year, Cassy starred in “First Yaya” with renowned actors Gabby Concepcion and Sanya Lopez while Mavy is portraying a role in the drama “I Left My Heart in Sorsogon” with Kyline Alcantara, Heart Evangelista, and Paolo Contis. — LA, GMA News
