A teacher in Dilasag, Aurora, has been buying school supplies for her students using her own money.
According to “24 Oras” Friday, Precious Mariel Montenegro believes that by providing them with the tools, the students will be encouraged to study.
However, she also admitted that she had limited funds, so sometimes they ran out of supplies such as paper and other school materials.
“Sa hirap po ng buhay dito sa amin, kung may maii-share ka naman sa kanila, bakit hindi mo sila bigyan?” said teacher Precious.
Even when the pandemic hit, she continued teaching her students by visiting them at their homes.
“Kailangan sa isang pamilya po kasi dapat mayroong nakapagtapos para naman maiangat ’yung pamilya nila,” she said.
For her efforts, she had received an outstanding teacher volunteer award.
Students in Dilasag were the beneficiaries of GMA Kapuso Foundation’s “Unang Hakbang sa Kinabukasan” project, where they received school supplies, hygiene kits, and face masks.
The foundation also went to nearby Casiguran town to bring school supplies to more than 800 kindergarten and grade 1 students who were mostly members of the Dumagat tribe.
GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, PayMaya, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Zalora, and Mega Mart.
