A grandfather from Talisay City, Cebu is wowing everyone with his fit body and strength as he cycles the steep Mabini Road at 82 years old.
According to Oscar Oida’s report on “24 Oras,” Thursday, Rustico “Lolo Ekoy” Mabunay bravely goes through the curvy roads every single day with his old but still viable bicycle.
Amazing everyone with his skills, Lolo Ekoy was dubbed the “Legend of Manipis Road” by the public.
“Masayang-masaya ako, unang-una, dahil mayroon akong malusog na pangangatawan. Walang nararamdamang sakit at malakas pa,” he said.
[“I am very happy, first and foremost, because I have a healthy body. I don’t feel sick and still strong.”]
Asked about the secret to his good health, Lolo Ekoy said it was to maintain an active lifestyle.
“Nag-e-exercise ako ng mga paa ko para hindi ako matumba. Sana bigyan pa ako ng maayos na pangangatawan, ng mahabang buhay, para makita ko ang mga anak ko pati ang mga apo ko.”
[“I exercise my feet so I won’t fall down. I hope I’ll be given good health, a long life, so I can see my kids and my grandchildren.”]
Hener Tirad Jaca, a member of a group of cyclists and photographers, said they always wait for Lolo Ekoy to pass by them so they could watch him and take a photo.
“Kapag nakikita na namin siyang magpadyak doon pataas, siya na po ‘yung attraction namin. Normal na po sa kanya. Kayang-kaya niya talaga,” he said.
[“When we see him cycling upwards, he becomes our attraction. It’s normal for him. He really can do it.”]
