Pia Wurtzbach recalled a time before the pandemic when she got burnout after working for months nonstop.
In her vlog post on Sunday, the Miss Universe 2015 was asked how she handled burnout and she said this was a normal occurrence.
“Honestly may mga araw na gumigising ako na hindi ako sure sa sarili ko parang hindi ako 100%, ’di ko kaya. ’Yung usual stresses sa buhay medyo affected ako. Normal naman ’yun,” Pia said.
“Hindi ibig sabihin beauty queen ka or artista ka immune ka na. Hindi ka na nagkakaroon ng bad days. Hindi totoo ’yun.”
[Honestly, there are days when I wake up and I feel unsure of myself, not at my 100%, I can’t do it. The usual stresses in life affect me. But that’s normal. Just because you’re a beauty queen or you’re an actress doesn’t mean you’re immune, you don’t have bad days. That’s not true.]
The beauty queen said she got burnout the most before the pandemic when she didn’t know how to take a break, balance her life, and enforce her boundaries.
“Wala akong weekends, walang Saturday, Sunday. Minsan nga hindi ko na alam anong araw na,” Pia said.
[I didn’t have weekends, no Saturday, Sunday. Sometimes, I didn’t even know what day it was.]
“May time na mas madalas ako matulog sa kotse kaysa sa bed ko sa bahay. Hindi talaga ako tumitigil kasi in my head, ‘Work, blessing ‘yan. Bakit ako tititigil?’ So tuloy-tuloy lang ako.”
[Sometimes I slept in my car than more often than in my bed at home. I didn’t stop because in my head, “this is work, it’s a blessing. Why would I stop?” So I kept going.]
She noticed that after months of working nonstop and feeling burned out, she would ask for a whole month off work and just fly away to rest. However, once she returned to the Philippines, the cycle would just repeat.
After months of working nonstop, Pia started to realize how harmful her routine was.
“Parang robot ako, parang matagal ko na hindi nakikita mga kaibigan ko,” Pia said.
“Wala na akong alam outside of work. Naging buhay ko na siya,” she said.
[It’s like I’m a robot, and I haven’t seen my friends in such a long time. I didn’t know anything outside of work. It became my life.]
“The pandemic made us realize that’s not necessarily the key to success. It can bring you happiness and it can bring you success but it’s not all that. I learned to take breaks. I learned to press pause,” she added.
“Pwede ko pala i-practice na mayroon akong boundaries na hindi ako laban ng laban.”
[I apparently can practice having boundaries and I don’t have to always push forward.]
Aside from taking breaks, Pia also learned how to say no to things that didn’t enrich her life.
“Piliin ko rin sarili ko. Natuto na ako mag-balance,” she said.
[I should also choose myself. I learned how to balance.]
“Self-care is key.”
Pia said in her vlog that she’s currently staying in Abu Dhabi and working on projects, podcasts, and endorsements remotely. – RC, GMA News
