Vegetable vendor’s children learn about inheritance after 17 years: 5-hectare land with waterfalls, hill

The children of a vegetable vendor found out after 17 years that their mother had left them with five hectares of land in Camarines Sur.

According to a “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho” episode, Nanay Leoning raised her 11 children by selling vegetables in the market.

Although they lived in poverty, Noel, one of her children, said they were rich in love and values because they were raised by a kind and hardworking mother.

“Ang nanay ko talaga, napakamatuwid niyan. Ayaw niyang nagnanakaw kami,” he said.

[My mom is righteous. She didn’t want us to steal.]

Noel said that even before their mother died, she would tell them about a piece of land in Bicol that she inherited from her mother and hoped to pass down to them someday.

After Nanay Leoning’s death due to a mild stroke in 2004, Noel said they had forgotten about the property that their mother told them about.

It wasn’t brought up again until 17 years later, when a relative passed away.

In July, after the death of one of their aunts, their relatives asked them to have a look at their Nanay Leoning’s land because it hadn’t been visited for so long.

For Noel, whose business was heavily hit by the pandemic, he thought of finally checking out the property to see if there would be an opportunity there.

Taking a chance, he and his brother Joey rode a motorcycle from Rizal all the way to Bato, Camarines Sur.

What they didn’t know was that they would get the surprise of their life upon their arrival.

The property their mom left them wasn’t just a simple and small land area, but it was five hectares big. The area was so large it even had a hill, and a part of the river. The land was close to 50-feet tall Bagacay Falls!

When they got there, “Parang may yumakap sa akin na malamig. Sabi ko, ‘Siguro kasama ko nanay ko.’”

[I felt a cold breeze embrace me. I said, “I think my mom is here with me.”]

After their visit, Nanay Leoning’s children decided to develop the land into a resort and build huts like a campsite so they didn’t have to divide the area among themselves.

“Pagyayamanin namin ‘yon. Kung mawala man kami, may legacy kami. Titira din kami,” the siblings said.

[We’ll enrich this land. If we pass away, this will be our legacy. We’ll live here.]
