Instead of cash, a daughter found letters inside ampaws from her mother who recently passed away due to breast cancer.
In an episode of “On Record,” 23-year-old Mica Tubino said the letters included her mom Teofila’s hopes and dreams for their family.
“Sana makatapos lahat kong anak sa kanilang pag-aaral at magkaroon ng magandang trabaho [I hope all my children finish their studies and get good jobs],” one read.
“Sana lagi kami ligtas sa anumang kapahamakan [I hope all of us remain safe from any unfortunate event],” another added.
Among all the letters, one that struck Mica the most is her dream to have their own house and lot.
[“We’ve been renting a house for a long time. It was really Nanay’s dream. She would tell us siblings that hopefully, we’ll own a house so we don’t have to rent anymore.”]
Mica saw the letters 23 days after Teofila died. According to her, she didn’t expect to see the letters as she was looking for something else inside their house.
“Naghanap akong sanrio then may nakita akong mga ampaw do’n sa pagbukas ko. Na-curious ako kung anong laman. Akala ko po, malay mo, may lamang pera,” she said.
[“I was looking for hair ties then I saw ampaws when I opened (a drawer). I got curious about what’s inside. I thought, perhaps, there’s money in it.”]
The contents weren’t what she expected, but Mica was not disappointed at how it turned out.
[“I didn’t get sad because it didn’t have money inside. I got sad because I read Nanay’s letters, her hopes, and dreams for our family.”]
Apart from Mica, Teofila also left behind her husband and three other children. Looking back, Mica said one thing she misses the most about her mother is her cooking.
[“When we would arrive home late from school, our food was already ready. She would always wait for us to arrive home because it’s already late and our food’s prepared.”]
After reading her mom’s letters, Mica and her siblings have vowed to make Teofila’s dreams a reality.
[“Mom, if you hear us now, if you’re here, my message for you is that we’ll make your wishes and dreams for us true. We won’t let you down, Nanay, because we love you so much.”]
