Medical frontliners at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) recalled the rescue of 35 babies from the fire that hit the hospital in May.
According to Athena Imperial’s “24 Oras” report Friday, the frontliners went through smoke and fire to bring 35 babies from the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) to safety.
Jomar Mallari, another pediatric nurse, said he was scared at first but he went on rescuing the children anyway.
Porter Albert Villegas, meanwhile, was stopped by his workmates but he returned to the nursery and NICU to get frozen breast milk and supplies for the babies.
The rescued babies were temporarily moved to PGH’s Immaculate Concepcion Chapel.
Seven months after the incident, the three frontliners were thankful for their strength to rescue the babies despite the dangers they themselves faced.
“Super worth it po kasi buhay ’yan eh, tapos wala silang kalaban-laban kasi sinong aasahan nila magligtas sa kanila,” said Jomar.
