Children of vegetable farmers in Mankayan, Benguet received Noche Buena packs and toys from the GMA Kapuso Foundation ahead of the holidays.
According to a “24 Oras” report, Thursday, among the beneficiaries were the kids of Joey Bahay, who has been working tirelessly for his family since he was young.
“Hindi kami uuwi ‘pag ‘di tapos ‘yung trabaho. Kung sa hirap, wala kaming magagawa. ‘Yon ang trabaho namin [We don’t go home if we aren’t done. We can’t do anything. That’s our job],” he said.
Aside from the scorching heat and natural calamities he has to deal with, Bahay said the pandemic has made it harder for them to sell their crops.
“Mas inaalagaan [ko] pa ‘yung tanim kesa sa pamilya [I care for my vegetables more than my family].”
Bahay said he hopes all his hard work will result in a brighter future for his children.
“Kung hindi kami nakapag-aral, sila man lang, at least, para ‘di naman sila matulad sa amin na sa bukid na naipanganak, sa bukid na lumaki, sa bukid pa rin tatanda,” he said.
[“We weren’t able to study, so I hope they can so they won’t end up like us who live in a farm ever since we were born.”]
Under the “Give a Gift: Alay sa Batang Pinoy” Christmas project, the beneficiaries also received hygiene kits.
The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, Shopee, GCash, Pay Maya, Zalora, Mega Mart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
