A 12-year-old boy received an early Christmas present after the owners of a music shop gave him a brand new guitar for free.
According to Katrina Son’s report on “24 Oras Weekend,” Sunday, John Mark Cabasag is one of those who collect scrap boxes from Marta and Valentin Lim’s musical instruments shop.
One day, he came and asked for a ukulele to be sketched in one of the boxes, as he makes miniature instruments of his own. He later went back and asked if he can have a broken guitar.
The couple thought, why not just give him a new one so he could learn to play?
Their kind deed was rewarded with a huge smile from John Mark, who was wearing a mask but the joy was evident from his eyes. The boy also gave them a miniature ukulele he made.
“Maraming salamat sa kanila dahil binigyan nila ako ng gitara. Nag-practice ako mag-gitara atsaka kumanta. Kung wala kaming bigas puwede gamitin mag-gitara sa labas para bibigyan kami ng pera,” he said.
[“Many thanks to them for giving me a guitar. I practiced playing the guitar and singing. If we have no rice, I can play the guitar outside so people can give me money.”]
Marta and Valentin, meanwhile, are also thankful to John Mark for making them realize that being rich is not essential to help others in need.
“Wala namang negosyong hindi umiiyak sa panahon ngayon eh pero para sa ‘kin, hindi ‘yon sapat na dahilan para huminto tayo na tumulong sa mas nangangailangan,” Marta said.
[“There’s no business that isn’t experiencing hardships during these times but for me, that’s not enough reason to stop helping others who are more in need.”]
“Maliit man ‘yan o malaki, isipin mo na meron talagang nangangailangan na kahit alam mo sa sarili mo na ikaw din nangangailangan,” she added.
[“Big or small, bear in mind that there are also others who need help even though you know you are also in need.”]
