Teacher who lost one eye due to brain tumor returns to work after surgery

A Grade 4 teacher who has lost an eye due to brain tumor is now back to work after her series of surgeries.

As reported by Mark Salazar on “24 Oras” Friday, Jelly Rojas was found to have meningioma or tumor in the brain behind her right eye in 2019.

“Noong sinabi ng doctor na I have to give up my right eye, ngumiti lang ako sa kanya,” she said. “Wala na ’kong salita na masabi kundi puro iyak na lang. Talagang sobrang sakit sa akin.”

In September 2019, Jelly had no choice but to give up seeing on her right eye to have the tumor removed so that it would not further develop into cancer.

However, while she was recovering, another lump was found where the surgery took place.

At that time the pandemic was already starting, and because Jelly was her family’s breadwinner, she didn’t know where to get the funds for another surgery.

Fortunately, she said she received help from many people, including her doctors, as well as various charitable organizations.

In November 2020, her right eye was completely removed, leaving her with a huge scar that ran from her ear all the way to her forehead.

After her surgery, she started getting better and soon she was able to return to teaching Math to students.

“It po na yung itsura ko ngayon,” Jelly said in the report, removing the cover on her right eye.

“Kailangan natin tanggapin, yakapin yung mga problema na binibigay sa atin ng Panginoon. Kapag kuma-‘faith’ tayo sa Panginoon, makakaya natin yung problem ana kinakaharap natin.” – RC, GMA News
