Did you know that Xian Lim is a puppet collector?

Apart from being an actor, singer, and director Xian Lim is also very passionate about…ventriloquism.

In an online interview with the press on Tuesday, the newest Kapuso actor said he started getting interested in the art through the 2008 movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”

“There was this one guy who wanted to make a puppet musical,” he said, adding that he would often see ventriloquists perform in films and talent shows.

According to Xian, he sees the practice of lending voice to a dummy an “underrated form of art.”

“Bakit ‘di nabibigyan ng light compared to others? Medyo na-outshine siya (Why isn’t it being given light compared to others? It gets outshined),” he said.

“[It’s amazing] because it evokes so much emotion [to kids, to adults. It covers everyone].”

With these thoughts, Xian said he started collecting his own puppets. Included in the pieces he would like to have are hard vent figures, which are often used in horror films.

Apart from collecting, Xian has also been staying in touch with “greats” in the Philippines’ puppet industry including Wanlu.

In March, Xian proudly shared his puppet collection in a YouTube vlog. Among the ones he introduced were a crocodile, one inspired by him, and Andok Manok.

Xian officially became a Kapuso last week. He is set to star alongside Jennylyn Mercado in the new GMA series titled “Love, Die, Repeat.”
