Ben&Ben on their music reaching K-pop artists: ‘It feels quite surreal’

Ben&Ben’s music isn’t just well-loved by Filipinos, it’s making waves among Koreans, too.

The OPM band recently released a new version of their hit song “Leaves,” featuring Young K from the South Korean band DAY6.

And prior to that, Cha Eun Woo covered their song “Kathang Isip” during a Manila concert!

In an episode of “Tunay na Buhay,” lead vocalist Miguel Benjamin Guico said that whenever such things happen, it feels “quite surreal and new and surprising.”

“Actually noong nilabas siya parang, ‘Hala, totoo ba ‘to?'” he said, referring to new version of “Leaves.”

“Ang sarap din mapatunayan na ‘yung music talaga walang boundaries,” he added.

(“When [Leaves] was first released, we thought, ‘Is this real?’

It feels good to prove that music has no boundaries.”)

Percussionist Andrew de Pano meanwhile said a lot of it has to do with their fans.

“I think it has to be acknowledged [the immense] power [of our] listeners to really push our songs to be listened to these artists,” he said in a mix of Filipino and English.

Ben&Ben’s collaboration with Young K came after several K-pop artists listened and reacted to ‘Leaves’ on their livestreams as requested by their respective fanbases.

This resulted to ‘Leaves’ to trend at no. 1 in Melon, a South Korean online music service, in 2020.

“Leaves” was first released by Ben&Ben in 2017.

Last June, Ben&Ben peformed a Korean version of the track. —JCB, GMA News
