Hannah Arnold on Miss International 2021 cancelation: ‘I was upset and in shock but…’

Hannah Arnold of Masbate will have to wait another year before she can represent the country on the international stage as Miss International 2021 gets cancelled.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the Filipina-Australian beauty queen admitted to being shocked and upset upon hearing news of the pageant’s cancelation.

“I have to admit that yesterday, I was upset and in shock with the news of the 2021 edition of Miss International being cancelled,” Hannah began her caption that accompanied a few happy photos of herself.

After talking about it with her loved ones, the BPCI [Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc.] and her fellow Miss International representatives, Hannah said, “we realised it’s in the best interest of the org to keep us safe at this time.”

Despite the delay, she assured the public that she will use her reign to “grow more, focus on her advocacy work and most importantly pursue the goal of ‘cheering all women’.”

“Let’s remind ourselves that a new month means a new beginning, a new mindset and a new result. First, let’s start the BER months with a little laugh in the rain,” Hannah said.

On Tuesday, International Cultural Association chairperson Akemi Shimomura announced that the Miss International 2021 pageant is cancelled amid the ongoing pandemic. The next edition will be held in 2022.

Last July, Hannah bested 33 other candidates and became Bb. Pilipinas International 2021. She’s gunning to be the seventh Filipina to win after Gemma Cruz (1964), Aurora Pijuan (1970), Melanie Marquez (1979), Lara Quigaman (2005), Bea Santiago (2013), Kylie Verzosa (2016). — Kaela Malig/LA, GMA News
